Govt announces 19 fully funded UK master’s scholarships for 2027
Tuesday 25th August, 2026 10:23 AM|
The government has announced an opportunity for 19 Kenyan citizens to pursue fully funded master’s degrees in the United Kingdom in 2027 under the Commonwealth Scholarship programme
The scholarships are being offered through the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) in the United Kingdom, which has invited Kenya’s Ministry of Education to nominate 19 Kenyan citizens for consideration
The final selection of successful candidates will be undertaken by the CSC, with the scholarships tenable at any approved UK university that hosts Commonwealth Scholarship Commission awardees
“The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) in the United Kingdom (UK) invites the Ministry of Education to nominate Nineteen (19) Kenyan citizens for consideration for full Master’s scholarships award tenable in 2027. Final selection will be made by the CSC and the awards are tenable at any approved United Kingdom University that hosts CSC awardees,” the notice reads in part
According to a notice issued by the Ministry of Education and the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission through the MyGov newspaper published on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, the online application portal will open on September 8, 2026
Interested applicants will have until October 20, 2026, at 4:00 pm GMT to submit their online applications
Applicants will then be required to submit their applications to the Ministry of Education by October 22, 2026, at 5:00 pm
The Ministry has directed prospective applicants to visit its official website for detailed information on the application procedure and scholarship requirements
The programme will see Kenya nominate 19 citizens for consideration for the prestigious master’s scholarships
However, nomination by Kenya will not automatically guarantee an award, as the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission will conduct the final selection
The scholarships are designed to provide successful candidates with an opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies in the UK while contributing to the development of their respective countries
The Ministry said prospective applicants should access the detailed application guidelines through its website under the scholarships section
The key dates are:
- September 8, 2026: Online applications open
- October 20, 2026, 4:00 pm GMT: Online application deadline
- October 22, 2026, 5:00 pm: Deadline for submission to the Ministry of Education
The Ministry has urged eligible Kenyans interested in the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the requirements and submit their applications before the respective deadlines
“For more details on the application procedure, kindly visit the Ministry’s website www.education.go.ke under the scholar-ship theme. The online application opens 8th September, 2026 and closes on 20th October, 2026 (16:00 GMT),” the ministry stated
“Applications should be submitted to the Ministry of Education on or before 22nd October, 2026 at 5.00 pm.”

The Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships are among the international scholarship opportunities available to Kenyan students seeking advanced training abroad
The 2027 programme offers successful Kenyan candidates an opportunity to study at an approved UK university while gaining postgraduate knowledge and skills that can potentially be applied to Kenya’s development priorities
With only 19 slots available for Kenyan nominees, competition for the scholarships is expected to be high
Prospective applicants are therefore expected to carefully follow the Ministry’s application instructions and ensure their submissions are completed within the stipulated timelines
