App helps parents track children as they board the school bus

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – A student transportation company is making upgrades to its school bus tracking app that will help parents get a more up-to-date glimpse of their child’s trip to and from school

“When the day is going well, everything is fine, your routine is fine, that’s great. But if there’s something that’s changing, it’s important for parents to know,” Katie Nottingham, with First Student, said

Nottingham said as a parent, she understands how hectic it can be getting back into the normal routine of school schedules

“You’re busy working. You know that students are going to arrive as soon as you get that notification. You know, OK, it’s time to head out the door,” Nottingham said

First Student recently announced new enhancements to the First View bus tracking app aimed at keeping families in the know when it comes to their students’ bus pick-ups and drop-offs

“Communication is an important piece when it comes to ensuring that everybody knows the status of their bus,” Nottingham said

Real-time, customizable trip updates, including pick-up and drop-off, stop changes or staff switches, are all available in the app

“We also do give the capability that they can track all of their students regardless of the type of vehicle that student is being transported on. Whether it’s a yellow bus or a small capacity vehicle, we have one app, one place for the parent to track all of their students,” Nottingham said

In addition to the updates, the First View app is now available in 15 different languages, and it features weather, delay and road closure alerts from school districts

The app is available for both iPhone and Android devices
