Finding opportunities: Making the most of Handshake and beyond
Whether you’re new to the University of Liverpool or returning for another year, Handshake is one of the ways you can discover career opportunities, search for graduate jobs, internships and placements, connect with employers, and access careers and employability support throughout your time at university

Supporting your job search
Handshake is a key part of the University’s digital careers offer, connecting students with employers, careers events, employability res to grow, more employers are joining and advertising opportunities every day, helping students access a wider range of graduate jobs, internships, placements and part-time roles
The Careers & Employability team is working closely with employer partners and Handshake to maximise the opportunities available to students. We expect the platform experience to continue evolving as employer engagement grows. This will create even more ways for students to discover career opportunities, build professional networks and connect with recruiters
Take a multi-channel approach
While Handshake is a valuable career platform, successful job seekers rarely rely on a single part-time work. Developing the skills to research opportunities, build networks and engage directly with employers is an important part of your career journey and long-term employability
Alongside Handshake, we recommend exploring:
- Employer websites and direct <a href="https://jiuniversity.com/australia-new-rules-now-in-force-for-accompanying-dependants-and-onshore-student-visa-applications/” title=”Australia: New rules now in force for accompanying dependants and onshore student visa applications”>applications.
- Graduate recruitment platforms.
- LinkedIn and professional networking opportunities.
- Careers fairs, employer events and networking activities.
- Opportunities shared through Careers & Employability communications.
- Proactive approaches to organisations you’re interested in working for.
Using a range of channels will help you access the broadest possible range of opportunities while also developing job-search and networking skills that will benefit you throughout your career
To help you find the right platform for your goals, we’ve put together a guide to job-search platforms and tools
In a world increasingly shaped by AI and digital recruitment tools, careers fairs and employer events also provide valuable opportunities to meet employers face-to-face. Make the most of opportunities to gain insights into organisations and hear directly about what they’re looking for from applicants. These conversations can help you build confidence, expand your network and gain a deeper understanding of different industries and career paths.
We’re here to help
Careers & Employability can support you with:
- Finding opportunities that match your interests and career goals.
