(BELLWOOD, Ill.) – Nearly 300 Illinois bus workers at Sunrise Transportation, now a subsidiary of Student Transportation of America, have voted overwhelmingly to join Teamsters Local 777. These workers include school bus drivers and monitors who organized to secure fair pay, improved working conditions, and better benefits
“Every day, these workers are entrusted with safely transporting students to and from school,” said Jim Glimco, President of Local 777. “The work they do is essential to families and communities across Illinois, and they deserve wages, benefits, and workplace protections that reflect the value of that responsibility. We’re proud to welcome them to the Teamsters.”
Local 777 will now work with the newly organized group to negotiate a first collective bargaining agreement
“We’re excited for the opportunities that becoming Teamsters will create for all of us,” said Al Mann, a bus worker at Sunrise and a new member of Local 777. “We stood together because we want a voice on the job and a stronger future for ourselves and our families. By joining the Teamsters, we now have the support and resources to fight for higher wages, improved health care and vacation benefits, safer working conditions, and more.”
Founded in 1937, Teamsters Local 777 represents workers in a wide variety of industries throughout the Chicago area. For more information, go to teamsters777.org
