The Government of Ireland has announced a fully funded Master’s scholarship programme for eligible early and mid-career professionals from Nigeria and Ghana, with applications set to open on June 29, 2026
The announcement was made by the Embassy of Ireland in Nigeria, which coordinates the fellowship programme for applicants from both countries
The scholarship offers successful candidates the opportunity to pursue a one-year Master’s degree at leading Irish universities while gaining the knowledge, skills and leadership experience needed to contribute to development efforts in their home countries
Under the programme, applicants must be resident nationals of Nigeria or Ghana, possess at least a Second-Class Lower bachelor’s degree and have a minimum of three years of relevant professional work experience
The initiative forms part of the Ireland Fellows Programme, which targets early and mid-career professionals seeking to strengthen their academic qualifications and leadership capacity through postgraduate education in Ireland
Successful fellows will receive a fully funded scholarship package covering their studies at participating universities across Ireland
The Embassy advised prospective applicants to review the programme’s eligibility requirements, approved courses and application procedures through the official fellowship platform before university.com/9-reasons-to-join-justfine-institute-university-this-september/” title=”9 Reasons to Join Justfine Institute University This September”>university.com/applications-open-for-15-scholarships-for-masters-and-phd-studies-in-south-korea/” title=”Applications open for 15 scholarships for Master's and PhD studies in South Korea”>applications open
The scholarship announcement reflects Ireland’s continued efforts to attract international talent and strengthen global partnerships through education and professional development opportunities
Earlier this year, Ireland introduced significant reforms to its employment permit framework, implementing 32 changes aimed at addressing labour shortages in sectors such as construction, healthcare, transport, agri-food and specialised services. The reforms expanded access to work permits through additions to the Critical Skills Employment Permit list, new quotas under the General Employment Permit scheme and the removal of several occupations from the ineligible list.
The country has also increased postgraduate study opportunities for international students. Last year, Ireland announced fully funded research programmes offering up to two years of support for Master’s by Research candidates and up to four years of funding for doctoral studies
These initiatives form part of Ireland’s broader strategy to strengthen its higher education system, attract skilled professionals and build a globally competitive workforce
For Nigerian professionals seeking international postgraduate education, the fellowship presents an opportunity to gain advanced qualifications, expand professional networks and acquire skills that can support career growth and contribute to national development upon their return
