The University of Embu has invited applications from qualified Kenyan citizens for 13 fully funded Master’s scholarships under the Higher Education Science and Technology (HEST) Phase II Project
The scholarships, funded through the African Development Fund (ADF), the concessional financing arm of the African Development Bank (AfDB), target priority Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields
In an advertisement, University of Embu Vice Chancellor Prof Daniel Mugendi said the beneficiaries would be engaged as Graduate Assistants after successful selection
He said the HEST project seeks to improve the relevance and equitable access to higher education, training and research in STEM fields to support inclusive economic growth and employment in Kenya by 2030
“In this regard, this is a call for applications from suitably qualified Kenyan citizens, 30 years and below, who, upon successful selection, will be engaged as Graduate Assistants under the applicable terms of engagement,” Mugendi said
The university is seeking four Graduate Assistants for a Master of Science (MSc) in Civil Engineering, specialising in Structural Engineering
Another three positions are available for MSc Civil Engineering, specialising in Water and Environmental Engineering, while four positions are available for MSc Civil Engineering, specialising in Transportation Engineering
The university is also seeking two Graduate Assistants for an MSc in Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
Applicants for the ICT programme must provide evidence of an Artificial Intelligence application
In addition to the 13 AfDB-funded positions, the university has advertised self-sponsored Graduate Assistant positions for three students pursuing an MSc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and another three pursuing an MSc in Mechanical Engineering
“Successful applicants will be responsible for meeting the cost of their postgraduate studies,” the university said
Interested and qualified applicants have been directed to submit their applications online through the university recruitment portal
Applications must be submitted by August 23, 2026, at 3 pm, when the application window closes
The university said additional information on the positions, including the application requirements, is available on its website
It clarified that applying for the positions is free and warned that only shortlisted candidates would be contacted
Successful applicants will also be required to meet the integrity requirements set out under Chapter Six of the Constitution
The university encouraged persons with disabilities who meet the qualifications to apply for the advertised positions
