On Veterans Day, Harvard Kennedy School is shining a spotlight on military service with its American Service Fellowship, a program designed to open the doors of graduate education to those who have served and those committed to public service
The landmark fellowship provides full scholarships to military veterans and public servants pursuing a mid-career master’s degree at Harvard Kennedy School. The program is aimed at supporting continued leadership and service beyond the military, helping recipients build skills for civilian roles in government and other public-service careers
Rob Berchinski, a U.S. Air Force veteran and chief of staff at Harvard Kennedy School, discussed the fellowship, including what it is, how it works, whether it supports veterans and active-duty service members, and why the school chose to launch the program. He also addressed what he would say to veterans or active-duty service members who may not have thought Harvard was an option for them, and how the fellowship is intended to help veterans continue their service and leadership in civilian life.
