The i-Scholar Initiative (ISI) has admitted 100 Nigerian scholars into its mentorship and scholarship programme to support their pursuit of postgraduate studies at universities across the United States
Speaking virtually during the onboarding ceremony, Founder and President of i-Scholar Initiative, Victor Ogunmola, said the organisation was established to bridge the gap between talent and opportunity by helping young Africans access quality global education
He explained that since its launch in 2019, the initiative has continued to expand its impact through the support of volunteers and development partners
According to Ogunmola, the programme helps talented Nigerian graduates overcome financial barriers that often prevent them from securing admission into international postgraduate programmes
He said the initiative sponsors standardised tests, graduate school application fees and provides mentorship and access to a professional support network for beneficiaries
“We sponsor standardised tests, application fees, provide mentorship and give them access to an ecosystem of support because we believe that lack of means should never limit exceptional talent,” he said
Ogunmola added that beneficiaries become part of a lifelong community, with an expectation to mentor future scholars and contribute to the initiative’s mission
Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr Tolulope Ewherido, welcomed the new scholars and reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting them throughout their academic journey
She also acknowledged the contributions of the Board of Trustees, donors and development partners in sustaining the programme
Delivering the keynote address, Chairman of the Nigerian-American Multicultural Council, Ufuoma Ewherido, encouraged the scholars to remain resilient and focused throughout the application and study process, noting that persistence is critical to achieving academic success
According to the organisation, the i-Scholar Initiative provides mentorship, sponsorship for standardised examinations, graduate school application support and access to professional networks for academically outstanding but financially disadvantaged Nigerians seeking postgraduate education abroad
