WANA (Oct 25) – Around 3,000 international students at Iranian universities receive scholarships that, depending on the type of award, cover tuition fees, accommodation costs and monthly stipends

Abbas Ghanbari Baghestan, Deputy for Scholarships and Overseas Students at Iran’s Student Affairs Organization, said that approximately 3,000 scholarship recipients are currently studying in the country and benefiting from the support provided under the program

The initiative aims to attract outstanding students from different countries and provide them with opportunities to pursue higher education at Iranian universities

Three Scholarship Categories and Financial Support

Iran’s scholarships for international students are offered in three categories — A, B and C — with different levels of financial support available under each category

Category A scholarships fully cover university tuition fees and accommodation costs, and recipients also receive a monthly stipend. Support under the other categories varies according to the type of scholarship and the student’s circumstances, with no fixed amount applying to all recipients

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

Major universities in Iran can identify eligible candidates based on academic criteria and nominate them to the Student Affairs Organization. The relevant procedures have been outlined in guidelines developed and distributed to universities

Applicants are assessed on several factors, including their grades and academic record at their previous level of study, the academic standing and reputation of their previous university, their country of study and their chosen field of study in Iran

Scholarships are among the measures used to attract international students and facilitate their access to higher education in Iran. By helping cover tuition and living expenses, these programs may influence international students’ decisions when choosing a university in Iran
