Applications are now open for the 2026 DAAD STEM Master’s Scholarships, a programme of the German Academic Exchange Service designed to support outstanding students from developing and emerging countries who wish to pursue a Master’s degree in STEM-related fields at universities in Germany
The scholarship aims to strengthen the qualifications and employability of future professionals by providing access to world-class education in innovation-driven disciplines such as mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and engineering
About the Scholarship
The programme offers talented graduates the opportunity to continue their academic and professional development through a tuition-free Master’s degree at a state or state-recognised university in Germany
By supporting advanced education in STEM fields, the scholarship seeks to develop highly skilled professionals who can contribute to scientific advancement, innovation, and sustainable development in their home countries
Why it Matters
STEM skills are increasingly critical to addressing global challenges in areas such as technology, healthcare, infrastructure, energy, climate change, and industrial development. However, access to advanced STEM education remains a challenge for many talented students in developing countries
The DAAD STEM Master’s Scholarship provides an opportunity for outstanding graduates to access high-quality education in Germany while receiving comprehensive financial support. Eligible Fields of Study
Funding is available for full-time Master’s degree programmes in:
• Mathematics
• Computer Science
• Natural Sciences
• Engineering
Interdisciplinary programs may also be eligible, provided they have a clear STEM focus
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
• Be citizens of a developing or emerging country
• Have completed a first university degree recognised in Germany (such as a Bachelor’s degree) by the application deadline
• Apply for a tuition-free full-time Master’s degree programme at a German university
• Demonstrate strong academic performance
Regional Eligibility
The DAAD Regional Office in Nairobi coordinates applications and support for candidates from:
• Kenya
• Uganda
• Tanzania
• Ethiopia
• South Sudan
• Rwanda
• Burundi
• Democratic Republic of the Congo
• Somalia
Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants will receive:
• Monthly scholarship stipend of €992
• Health, accident, and personal liability insurance coverage
• Travel allowance (upon approval)
• Annual study allowance of €460
Additional benefits may include:
• Monthly rent subsidy
• Family allowance for accompanying family members
• Reimbursement of carbon offset payments for air travel
Funding Duration
The scholarship covers between 10 and 24 months, depending on the standard duration of the selected Master’s programme
Applicants must indicate the full duration of their intended programme when applying
